Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • zest of 1/2 orange
  • 1 lemon wedge, notched in center
  • 1 1/2 oz bourbon
  • 1 1/2 oz Grand Marnier (can substitute Cointreau)
  • 1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and orange zest in a mortar and pestle or spice grinder and blend until zest is finely chopped and mixed into the sugar (if using a spice grinder, only pulse a few times and don’t over process, or the sugar will turn into a fine powder). Transfer to a plate.
  2. Run lemon wedge around half the rim of a coupe or cocktail glass to moisten, then invert glass and dip edge into orange sugar to coat. Set aside.
  3. Combine bourbon, Grand Marnier, lemon juice and maple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until chilled, about 30 seconds, then strain into prepared glass and enjoy.
